About Us :
Jackson County is very fortunate to have its own historical and cultural museum which provides unique opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The home formerly owned by Lillian Jones, whose family was active in the early business and social past of Jackson County, was left to be used as a museum to encourage and preserve the history of Jackson County. In addition to preserving the history of the area, the museum strives to implement new programs, exhibits, and events of interest for the education and enjoyment of the community.

The house was built in 1867 and was purchased by the Jones family in the early 1920s. They had it remodeled shortly thereafter, and the decor and furnishings reflect this time period. Changing exhibits supplement a fine collection of permanent objects which include antique furnishings, glassware, ceramics, vintage clothing, books, collectibles and other such treasures.

There are things from England, Germany, the Orient, and other places around the globe as well as things from bygone days right here in Jackson County, Ohio. Many items in the museum’s collection were acquired by Lillian, who traveled around the world four times during her life. There are also many treasures which have been given to the museum since it opened to the public in 1995 by local people and by former residents of the area.

In keeping with our dedication to preserve the history of Jackson County, we have completed renovations to the Carriage House behind the museum. This building houses a meeting room and a genealogy research center. This exciting new addition to the museum is opened in September 2000.

Also available on the museum grounds is a Gift Shop. There is a nice selection of books, paper dolls, cards, cookbooks, etc. In addition to paper goods, we also carry our exclusive Lillian E. Jones Museum collectable Christmas ornaments, King’s Crown Glassware, and Beaumont Pottery ceramics. New items are being added all the time; so, if you are looking for a unique gift for someone special, the museum’s Gift Shop is the place for you!
