Jackson Hole Historical Society And Museum

The Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum is a not-for-profit organization devoted to the collection and study of Jackson Hole and Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park history. Its mission is history education. In the late 1980's the museum, founded in 1958, and the historical society, begun in 1965, merged to form the organization we have today.

To support its mission, the history museum offers a wide variety of educational programs, from walking tours of historic downtown Jackson, to history excursions throughout Jackson Hole and Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, book discussion groups, to customized programs for local and regional students, and wide-ranging historical exhibits. The organization also publishes scholarly works on the history of Jackson Hole. These activities help local residents and visitors to Jackson Hole celebrate our western heritage and reflect on the future of Jackson.

In addition to a permanent artifact collection, the history museum features a research library with archival and biographical data, maps, oral histories, and a photograph archive. The collections showcase material culture from prehistoric times, the story of the fur trade, and the presence of Native Americans. They also explore the people that settled Jackson Hole, how they used the land and natural resources, and the traditions and culture that they developed.
