Kwanzaa was created to highlight the many connections between African culture and the broader African American identity. Every year, in line with the South African harvest, Kwanzaa celebrates community, family, and self as all these elements work toward fulfilling seven principles, including Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani.
Join the IAAM on December 26 and 27 as we host educational arts and craft workshops designed to delve into the history, spread, and key elements of Kwanzaa.
Program registration is complimentary alongside museum ticket purchase. No registration is required.
