The Miser by Moliere Adapted and directed by Dave Rzeszutek!
Performed in the style of Commedia Dell’Arte, this classic comedy of money versus love revolves around the central character, Harpagon, a wealthy but miserly old man who values his money above all else. Obsessed with hoarding his wealth and constantly scheming to save money at the expense of his family and servants, he plans to marry his daughter elise to a wealthy old man to secure a large dowry. Meanwhile, he himself plans to marry Mariane, a young woman whom his son, Cleante, is in love with. Cleante and Elise, along with Harpagon’s servants, plot to thwart their father’s plans and pursue their own romantic interests. In the end, the various schemes and deceptions are revealed, and Harpagon’s greed and miserliness are exposed. The Miser is a timeless satire on greed, selfishness, and the absurdities of human behavior, and it remains one of Moliere’s most celebrated and enduring comedies.
