CCSU Master's Exhibition: 'Memories in Making' by Kelly Nickel

Kelly Nickel is a visual arts educator, painter, and mixed media artist from Avon, CT whose recent work explores memories and the relationships between people and their things. In her Capstone body of work, she uses abstraction and symbolism to build dynamic narrative flashbacks of experiences with hints of the objects that inspired her creatively in childhood. Drawing from her upbringing around sewing and crafts, she explores the use of paint, fibers, digital art, video, and sculptural elements to best depict significant moments in time and the sentimentality and emotion surrounding objects. Nickel’s tendencies toward repetition, line, symmetry, movement, and color creates a balanced and unifying visual theme as she captures the nostalgia and essence of the subject matter.
