A Choral Panoply for May

The NIH Community Chorus will present “A Choral Panoply for May” on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 7:30 pm at Saint Mark Presbyterian Church, 10701 Old Georgetown Road, Rockville, Maryland. The repertoire will feature a selection of five stirring pieces from Gilbert and Sullivan, including Welcome Gentry and Over the Bright Blue Sea for the first half of the program. The program’s second half will include choral selections suggested by our singers including How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place from Brahms’ Requiem, Ave Maria by Franz Biebl, the traditional hymn “Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal, the well-known English folk song Scarborough Fair, and more. The performance will feature two conductors: Joe Sorge, the longtime Artistic Director, and Music Director for the Victorian Lyric Opera Company, will conduct the Gilbert and Sullivan pieces, and W. Robert Johnson, the Chorus’ conductor since 2009, will conduct the other selections. Free parking, no tickets; donations welcome to benefit the National Institutes of Health charities.
